Last Minute ….
If you are running late, if you have suddenly forgotten to do something and you need some help, here are a few tips to get everything back on track.
  1. Last minute gifts: Gift vouchers always brilliant, or alternately go and have a look on websites such as John Lewis, Not on the High Street, House of Frasier, all of these have so many options to find a quick but brilliant gift (on Not on the High Street you can even click a box which shows you what can be delivered by Christmas).
  2. Last minute food: What do you do if there are no turkeys left? What pudding should you bring to an event you forgot all about? What if… there are no sprouts in the supermarkets? Try a different meat. Go for a chicken or go crazy and have beef or lamb. Perhaps admit defeat and instead of baking a ‘Great British Bake Off’ showstopper – go to the local shop and pick out a pud. Marks and Spencer for anyone in the UK always has some very festive options.
  3. Last minute gift (if you can’t get to the shops): Make a good old fashioned mix tape – get together a playlist on iTunes off all their favourite songs and burn it onto a blank CD. Or, if you don’t happen to have any blank CDs lying around, make a wordle (word cloud) with lots of words that describe them, shared memories etc. and frame it (both of these are actually thoughtful and rely on a bit more thought than is needed to buy them junk they don’t really want – they will probably appreciate the effort).
  4. Last minute playlist: what songs do you want playing as you enjoy the party? What songs should be in the background as you open presents and eat food? Take a look at my top ten Christmas songs and that might give you some ideas (videos included).
  5. Last minute blog posts: I also get a lot of bloggers taking a look and if you’re anything like me there will be times when you don’t know what to say but you still feel you should put a post out. Join in with Word of the Week on ‘The Reading Residence’ blog every Friday – Sunday. Or talk about what you are doing this Christmas – take a look at some of my other festive posts and see if anything inspires you!
Have a wonderful wintery week,
The Clumsy Wordshaker
