Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Last weekend I went to 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' and the three words I would use to describe it are: fantastical, funny and secretive.

I definitely enjoyed watching the film which is based approximately thirty years after Darth Vader dies and features some of the old favourites such as Han Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca as well as some brilliant new people. Rey from Jakku is played by the brilliant Daisy Ridley who clearly has  troubled past which will be unrolled over the next few films and her banter with former Stormtrooper Finn played by the wonderful John Boyega is particularly funny. I have to tell you that I do love the two new characters - they are witty and their pasts add a nice dimension into the mix.

What emerges in this film is that a new dark force has taken the place of the former one  using a bigger version of a Deathstar as a weapon. Some people who have written other reviews have talked about the similarity between this film and the very first Star Wars film. I have to admit the films have their similarities however the characters are new and original, and the interactions between the characters are amusing.

I am definitely not a Star Wars aficionado and so here is my advice for people who are like me but are going to see the film. Firstly, don't worry that you've missed the other films (all/some of them), you don't need that information for this film however you may miss some of the references. The two main new characters, are new so their flashbacks aren't linked to anything from the previous films so don't worry you aren't the only one confused. Also, take a quick look on Wikipedia if you can before you go (particularly if you are going with someone who knows a lot about the series).

There are clearly a lot of secrets that will be revealed over the next two films such as Rey's connection to Jaku and her link to the force as well as various elements of the dark side.

I hope you enjoy the film, let me know what you thought!
Have a wonderful week,

The Clumsy Wordshaker
